Well, I’ve not quite jumped back on the FlyWagon, but I’m trying.

My dining room table is currently (mostly) clean.  My sink has dirty dishes in it, but that’s cuz I’m waiting for the ones in the dishwasher to dry, then they’ll get put away and dirties put in to wash.  My laundry is all caught up (just sheets left).  My living room is at least trash-less.  But, I plan to start decorating for xmas tomorrow, so it will get a face lift…

I’ve been trying to get a Holiday Control Journal together, but I seem to have missed all their missions and such.  So, I’m just going to make my own to keep track of presents purchased, presents needing to be purchased and xmas cards.  I’ve finished making mine, but haven’t yet mailed them.  Plan was to have them mailed out tomorrow.  Obviously, that’s not going to happen.  New plan is to mail on Friday.  I *think* I can do it…cross your fingers!

This week is supposed to be Zone 3:  Bathrooms.  I guess I’ll try to get back in the swing by straightening up when I get in the shower tonite (the Widget just took his and it looks like a bomb went off in my bathroom *sigh*)

Let’s face it, I’m a FLYFailure…but not a permanent one!

Welp, it’s the 13th, so that means my topic for today is FlyLady.

I’ve been a flybaby for quite a few years now…constantly climbing on the wagon to fall off again in a few months.  Sometime it’s hard for me to follow because I have different zones than she does so I can’t follow the missions in the same manner, but that’s MY issue, not hers.

My zones are:

Zone 1:  Entrance, Living Room, Dining Room
Zone 2:  Kitchen
Zone 3:  Bathrooms
Zone 4:  My bedroom (ideally, The Widget would do HIS room too)
Zone 5:  Craft Room & Laundry Room (and again, The Widget would do the playroom)

The idea is to spend 15 minutes, per day for the week that you’re in your zone.  Some months, Zones 1 & 5 don’t get a full 5 days of focus, but you can always go back the following month.  When you first start, you’re just supposed to "declutter" for 15 minutes a day.  That means find homes for the items that are just taking up space in a "hot spot" (a "hot spot" is a place where you are notorious for dropping things to deal with later).  And a "home" can mean get rid of it!  That’s the hard thing for me.  I’m a bit of a packrat, but I’m getting better.

I swear I have ADD when it comes to cleaning.  I’ll start in one room, be fine until I come across something that belongs in another room and I will grab it and put it away.  Then I start putzing in THAT room and the vicious cycle continues all day, throughout the house and NOTHING gets done.  This frustrates me, so I say, "eff it" and fall off the wagon for a few months, only to try it all again later.

So, obviously, I’m in my "try it again" phase.  This time, I’m going to try REALLY, REALLY hard to "follow the rules" (groan).  And definitely use a timer.

I also try to set up my FlyLady so I don’t have to do ANY housework on the weekends (I try to use Saturday as my errands day and Sunday is a total eff off day).  I usually wind up doing nothing all week and then doing everything on Saturday (still leaving Sunday as my eff off day).  This works SOMETIMES, but then I have days like today where I burn out early and don’t get as much done as I want/need.

Since Monday we begin the 3rd week of November, I will be in Zone 3.  I will spend 15 minutes, each day, in each bathroom.  Let’s hope it makes a difference and I stick to the plan…

Yesterday’s To Do List:

FLYLADY ZONE 1: Living Room, Dining Room, Entrance

  • Sweep the floors
  • Mop the floors – swiffer broke, so didn’t get done
  • Dust
  • Clean window on Front Door
  • (someday, I wanna paint the damn living room)
  • laundry
  • dinner (teriyaki chex mix chicken…new recipe)
  • dishes

Today’s To Do List:

FLYLADY ZONE 1: Living Room, Dining Room, Entrance

  • Get MORE of the wax off the walls and floor from the candle that the %&*&!% cats knocked over
  • Sweep the floors (again)
  • Mop the floors
  • Clean window on Front Door
  • (someday, I wanna paint the damn living room)
  • laundry  (2 loads)
  • dinner
  • dishes

The Widget helped me clean last night.  We did pretty well until the swiffer broke.  😦  I wanted to get a new one, but, it was fine and I couldn’t justify getting a new one.  Thank goodness The Widget was the one using it, so I can’t be blamed for breaking it on purpose to get a new one :-p

Had to throw out quite a bit of stuff because BABY (the male kitten) had peed on it.  I SO need to get him fixed.  I think he’s old enough now, so I will have to stash some money and make an appointment.  If the peeing does not stop after that, I’m going to have to find him a new home.  This is ridiculous!  I was SO pissed at him X-(

Went to bed at 9 last night.  WAY early for me, but apparently, I needed it.  Still couldn’t drag my ass outta bed at 5 (when the alarm went off), but I was up and out of the house by 6:30, so that was good.  Maybe soon I will get back to my 6 am work habit…would be nice.

15 Minutes

Peanut and I made a deal. Because his room and his playroom (and my craft area, let’s be honest) are total DISASTERS, he’s to give me 15 minutes a day to clean. He’s decided that ODD numbered days are to work in his room and EVEN for the playroom.

Last night, being and ODD number, found us in his bedroom. WHAT A MESS! I should have taken a picture before we started. Stuff was everywhere! He couldn’t even get to his dresser drawers!

Well, fast forward 15 minutes and WOW! He gave away one [almost full] black trash bag of stuff (plus the already-started-bag of clothing); a grocery bag of trash; and emptied FOUR mesh bags (two of which are part of the FlyLady declutter kit) of stuff that had been waiting to be dealt with. Mostly stuffed animals, but still. Oh, and we found the charger and two game holders for his DS!

He was a little sad about giving away some of his stuffed animals, but we agreed that it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love them, just that he knows that someone out there will love them more and play with them more.

I was so proud. And get this, after his 15 minutes was up, I had to tell him to STOP. He was done. But he was SO on a roll he wanted to keep going.

I’m just so proud. 🙂 Next time, I will take a picture before we start to see if we can see progress as much as last night. I’ll DEFINITELY take a picture of the playroom before we start…doubt we’ll see such dramatic results in 15 minutes, but I’m just glad that we START!

(Oh, and per FlyLady, we only do 15 minutes Monday through Friday…weekends are FREE).
